Photos from my self portrait project in my pho111 class!

Maan. My photo111 class is a lot more intense than I thought it would be, but I am enjoying it so much!  This is my second project in the class. I still need to post the portrait pictures I took for our previous project. But anyways. These are my self portraits. Some of them have meaning behind them while others are just something that I thought would make a nice picture.. Or I was just being goofy. I will let you decide ;p

Over the Summer

My 2010 summer was pretty much spent chillin' in front of the tv and enjoying family and friends. Unfortunately, I got preoccupied with everything except my photography. Once classes were in sight I realized that I hardly took any pictures over the summer. I did get a few though.

I took this picture one evening waiting till the sun had set enough to start taking long exposure sparkler photos with my friend Jenni. I have always enjoyed experimenting with long exposure photos but had never tried to get a smooth water effect. I took this picture with my fish eye lens with, I believe, a 20 second exposure and I love the way it turned out! I'm wanting to work more with water in the near future and find more subjects for long exposures. 

That night I also tried slow sync flash photos for the first time. This is one of my better pictures from when I was experimenting. This also inspired me to try using a separate flash or possibly an alternative light source, like a flash light, during long exposure pictures. I remember seeing a picture of an old house where the photographer shined a flashlight on the windows to make it seem like there were lights on inside. Sometime soon I'm going to explore good ole' east texas for an old house or barn that I could try that  on. 

Overall, I'm really excited to be here in Commerce. I can't wait to take my camera around town and get started on assignments. I'm pretty excited to be using this blog to post some of my pictures and share my ideas too. Its easier to talk about photos on here instead of in a photo's caption on Facebook :p

This Blog

I'm just starting my fall 2010 semester at Texas A&M University Commerce. My classes are starting out great and are inspiring me to make changes in my life. Not very drastic changes. Just simple changes to help me become more focused on my photography and being more productive. I'm planning on updating this blog at least once a week with recent photos, techniques I would like to work on, inspiration and general school projects that I'm involved with.
